Good value ice maker
Been shopping around for ice makers for a while and all things considered this Whynter ice maker was by far the best value in terms of what I was looking for. This is not a heavy duty commercial output ice maker, but for a average user this is more than you would need. It starts of slow, but once the cycles get going the ice just keeps coming. Nice stainless steel door that looks a whole lot better than the boxy portables types. It's a nice size that fits in our bar counter perfectly. I bought a hose adaptor from the hardware store so that I can bring it out to the patio when needed.
This is a great value built-in. It's easy enough to install with zero handiness required. I had a couple of clarifications that Whynter customer support addressed perfectly. This has worked nicely through three holiday parties and one birthday party. Will update if anything changes.
Quite a good ice machine
Whynter UIM-155 Stainless Steel Built-In Ice Maker
Surprisingly compact, it can fit just about any space. What was most important was that it could be used undercounter (front venting). It sits a little short for your standard height counter but it's not a big deal to me. Doesn't look too shabby either. Compared to many undercounter ice makers out there, this is a great priced item. I didn't expect it to be able to keep ice frozen in the compartment but it does!
The unit comes with a standard direct water tube, but I would get a connector or fastener of my own preference. Be extra careful to securely fasten the the tube to the unit and obviously check for leaks at both ends. Simple enough but it does require some diligence. Instructions are passable but if you know what you're doing, you probably wont bother with it.
The ice does take a while to accumulate so start it early and...
Great icemaker
Bought this instead of a $1200 built in and it works great. An easy install for anyone that can install an icemaker line for their fridge.
