Does everything I need a vacuum to doI recently sold my Kirby vacuum and bought this one. I bought the Kirby after the salesman came to the house and made it look and sound like the gods of vacuums. I quickly realized how much I HATE that vacuum!!! It's big, clunky, heavy, doesn't maneuver well, and attachment changes are a pain. After owning that mammoth I decided what I wanted in a vacuum: It has to be light, easy to maneuver, quickly go from carpet to hard floors without changing attachments, NO BAGS, and be something that is a pleasure to use every day, as I have a baby and need to vacuum every day. After doing some research I almost bought a Dyson upright because it had great reviews but then I saw this one. It had all the features I want but it was less than half the price of a Dyson! So I bought this one, and I'm glad I did!
The Pros:
Easy to maneuver, easily goes from carpet to hard floors with the flick of a switch, bagless, cord winds itself, but the most surprising feature is actually how QUIET...
Good Performing, Cheap VacuumThis is basically Hoover's version of a Dyson canister. Like most vacuums when you first get it out of the box, the performance is great! This would be a good choice for someone like me who was tired of the REALLY cheap vacuums, but can't stomach paying more than $200. Will see how it does later down the road, though.
PROS: Really great suction so far, it sucks up stuff a good 3" or 4" away from the brush head. It is pretty quiet - a calm whirl instead of a sharp shrill. The brush roller is motor propelled and very strong. Hairs are easily sucked-in and swept-up. Dirt cup is easily emptied. And of course, it looks great!
CONS: There are a few conveniences you may find in other brands/models that aren't here, including: power button on the handle, full 90 degree and 0 degree brush head/wand angles (head and hose component can't stand on its own, although a clip on the back of the unit allows you to "park" it, and the wand can't lay completely flat on the floor...
Hoover Does It Again! The new Hoover Zen Whisper, is the American version of the Vax Mach Zen from England (which I also own). The vacuum canister portions are the same - extremely quiet and very powerful. The American Version has an electric power nozzle and electric power hose (Europeans don't use Power Nozzles for their very short carpets). The Power Nozzle on the Zen Whisper cleans low to medium pile carpets extremely well. It also cleans bare floors in the 'brush off' position. I have absolutely no complaints or criticisms about the vacuum - the power nozzle does have a narrow diameter brush roller so people with pets MUST keep the brush clean. I think this would be an excellent cleaner for people who need a great, quiet vacuum. As long as you don't have the 'new' shag (called Frieze), this machine will serve you very well.
UPDATE: 1/3/13 I still have my Hoover Zen Whisper vacuum. I clean the brush bar after every other use (cat hair wraps around the narrow diameter brush bar). No...
